This is Where We Live by Apt Studio

Using more than 1000 books and three weeks of filming in stop-motion, the producers Apt Studio and working with Asylum Films made this beautiful film to commemorate the 25th anniversary of imprint 4th Estate. The film contains numerous in-jokes and references to the books it features, and everything, from the ships in port to the cinema in Soho to the man fishing in Central Park is made out of books, covers, pages and words. In the campaign’s website you can check photos of the making of.

I really like writer Dave Eggers. Ever since I read A Heartbreaking Work Of A Staggering Genius , I have been following his career. With that said, I’m really excited about a new movie that he and his wife, Vendela Vida, wrote together called Away We Go.

Away We Go is about a couple who found out they are expecting their first child, so they decide to travel around the US in order to find the perfect place to start their new family. The movie looks so charming. It seems to have the right amount of drama and comedy that equal out to be a very real story.

Making this movie more appealing is Sam Mendes (Kate Winslet’s husband), who is known for directing Revolutionary Road, Road to Perdition, and American Beauty.

I love this! Christian Lander started this blog and then turned it into a book. As his about page says, he takes a scientific approach to highlight and explain stuff white people like. He is very smart and witty. My favorites are:

*The idea of Soccer

*80s Night

*Not having a TV

*Promising to learn a new language

*Hummus

*Girls with bangs

I was watching Conan O’Brien the other day and he had a 9 year old boy on his show that wrote a book called How to Talk to Girls. Alec Greven started this as a school assignment. He researched by watching boys on the playground try to approach the girls. This kid is so observant. Most of the things in his book are very true, even for adults.

“A crush is like a love disease. It can drive you mad.”

“Listen to your mom: after all, she’s a girl too.”

“I’ve only seriously tried to kill Liam once. I think that’s a pretty good record. In fact, I deserve some sort of commendation.”

“If you are a dreamer, come in,

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…

If you are a pretender, come sit by my fire

For we have some flax-golden tales to spin,

Come in! Come in!”

-Some interesting facts about Shel Silverstein:

He grew up in Chicago

He wrote A Boy Named Sue for Johnny Cash; and several other songs

He has a great website (for children and adults):

I was thinking about how I have a really big imagination. I would like to give most of the credit to Shel Silverstein. I loved his books so much when I was younger (and still do). He helped let my imagination run wild. But looking at his writing now I realize how much of a genius he was. No one was writing children books like that at the time and no one will ever be able to copy that type of style. The Giving Tree was my favorite.
